This channel is a mix of tech, photography, videography, and pretty much anything that crosses my mind. I've been a serious photographer for a long time and have recently gotten into video and with my DJI Inspire 1 Pro that video is now 4K. I hope to add content regularly and have recently built a new video editing PC to edit the videos. I have some old video going back more than 20 years and will put some of that up including some stuff shot in 1993 at the 30th anniversary of the JFK assassination in Dallas.
Kennecott Copper Mine by Drone in 4K.
This is a video of the Kennecott Copper Mine, otherwise known as the Bingham Canyon Mine, and is situated in the Oquirrh Mountains at the west side of the Salt Lake Valley and about 22.5 miles from downtown SLC. The mine began operation in 1906 and is the largest and deepest man-made excavation in the world at 4km-5km in diameter and 1200m deep. By way of comparison, the Meteor Crater in Arizona, formed by a meteor impact about 50,000 years ago, is 1200m in diameter and 170m deep making the volume of excavated material only about 2% of what's thus far been removed from Kennecott Copper Mine.
The impact of the asteroid that formed Meteor Crater is estimated to have had the energy equivalent of between 1MT and 10MT so if we split the difference and go with 5T and then compare that to the pit at KCM which is 50 times as big then the energy needed to form the KCM might well be near 250MT and possibly as much as 1GT.

This video cover the first three days of flying the DJI Mavic Air 2 drone and visits two places I've been to many times. The first series of clips is at the south end of the Great Salt Lake near Salt Lake City Utah and was the home of the old Saltair amusement park. The park was originally built in 1893 and was at the time the largest amusement park west of NYC's Coney Island. The Saltair was b...
Asteroid and Comet Impact Prevention -- Gravity Tug
Переглядів 2395 років тому
One of the most popular concepts for protecting Earth from an Asteroid or Comet impact is the 'Gravity Tug'. The idea is to position a spacecraft close to such an object and keep it there for months or years and by mutual gravitation pull the object from its original course and avoid impacting the Earth. There are two approaches to getting such a gravity tub to the object: either a large rocket...
Abandoned Mine in 4K

This mine, or more accurately, a mine processing facility, known as the Tintic Standard Reduction Mill was in operation from 1920 until 1925 and has been abandoned for nearly a century. This type of facility was an interim step to reduce or concentrate the ore so that shipment for final processing would be less expensive. Back when this was built there was no trucking industry as there were ver...

Not far from the apparent ghost town known as Cisco in east central Utah flows the Colorado River on its way towards Moab and then to Lake Powell and later, the Grand Canyon. For much of the Colorado Rivers run it is prohibited to fly drones due to the numerous national park designations along its run, but further north in this area it is legal. Cisco, as mentioned before is an "apparent" ghost...

Sego Canyon, in east central Utah, 5 miles north of the town of Thompson Springs along I-70 has seen human habitation for thousands of years. The first peoples, known as the Barrier Canyon Indians, were present in the larger area since about 6000BC or 8000 years, but its thought they first inhabited Sego Canyon about 4000 years ago or perhaps a bit longer or shorter. Horseshoe Springs is an oasis in the desert west of Salt Lake City. Situated within the Skull Valley in an area of the desert north of the Dugway Proving Grounds and south of the Great Salt Lake, this warm-spring fed marsh is a haven for migratory birds and home to others more permanently. The warm springs that feed it are thought to derive there water from mountain runoff that percolates throu...

As a follow up to my last posting, We have correspondence from The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company, dated 06-09-1983. On receipt your letter of May 28 1983, We checked our historical records pertaining to Henry Randolph Holbrook and the Canyon Diablo bridge, and have determined that the bridge took 15 months to build and was completed in June of 1882. Inasmuch as Mr Holbrook was the chief engineer during the period July 6 1880 to December 31 1881, he was responsible for it's construction. That was sent to us by Bill Burk, Vice President Public Relations.
I'm thinking about getting a Rigol 5.5 digital meter like yours or maybe a Keithley or Fluke 6.5 digit on the used market for about the same price.
Great room. What is the room ambient temperature in summer? I have a similar room, I was wondering.

A 7 year old video that's as relevant as every for someone building out a lab. I am stealing your idea of the wire rack holding the gear with the table set in front of it. Perfect!

bought new gimbal for my P4PRO now I have black screen. I paid 350 for the new gimbal and have nothing. Any thoughts?
Just think how many CIA agents are there on the day?🦘🦘👌👌✌✌👍👍
You really know how to instruct and demonstrate the benefits and pitfalls with Kelvin measurements, especially with the graph of I vs R. Just this past week I had a colleague getting unexpected measurements with the professional meter. I shared your video to show that the noise in his setup was leading to significant measurement error. It wasn't the Seebeck effect, it was how the circuit was wired with unterminated ends leading elsewhere on the board. At home, I find the 4-wire measurement very effective at identifying issues with cables and terminated ends, such as old test leads and electric cords. Hook it up and move the cable around, noting what causes the resistance to change. Every handyman should make a 4-wire tester, I don't know how I ever did without it. There are plenty of resources on the internet for ways to make a constant current source from spare or inexpensive parts and a standard multimeter when a benchtop power supply isn't available. I personally have a homemade LM317 tuned for 100mA on a perf-board as my source, running off a spare USB cable. I just multiply the millivolts by 10 to get millihohms. Any multimeter gives me resolution to 1 milliohms, some better ones give me a few decimal places. Your plastic boxes would be a good place to store the source and wires necessary to hook things up.
Why are the last 2 tanks divided into different parts? 🤔
I presume when you say tanks that you mean tanker cars. The purpose of this kind of procedure is to break the train into parts that go to different locations. If the tankers originated at a chemical plant that train might have 100 tanker cars but not all of them are going to the same destination so that requires the train to be broken up into smaller sections with the different sections being formed into new trains with new destinations. There are a number of ways this is done: first, the most efficient and least expensive approach would be to build a hill in the yard and then drive a train with many cars to the hill so that when uncoupled the cars can roll down the hill and individually be diverted to separate track sections, often arranged in a bowl. Such an arrangement can handle about 8 cars per minute; a second approach as used here is to make use of a small elevation difference and then have the train backup for each of the separate car groups that go to different areas to be assembled into new trains as needed. I think you can see from this video that the rate this happens is a lot slower than a true 'hump yard' as mentioned above. So, instead of handling about 8 cars per minute this is more like 2 cars per minute or less -- much more labor intensive and thus more expensive. If there is no hill then the diverting action is going to be even slower and more labor intensive -- and expensive.

Hello - Really beautiful work. I wonder if you take on drone projects? I've been looking for a photographer to take some photos for a project of mine and this area was something I am interested in. Would love to learn if you do that. Thanks so much.
haha, the sweep in the background looks like a 80's spaceship
Not a bad road! eh?......why are you driving like the devil....best to slowly savor your demise.
I was not driving like the devil and was in fact at or below the speed limit.
Excellent lab setup, thank you for sharing it with us. I enjoy drawing inspiration from seeing how other people set up their workbenches.
Very nice❤
Excuse me! YOU are one tidy bloke. You are organized! You embarress me with how organized and neat you are.

Great video. My uncle works there driving one of these huge dump trucks. It is fascinating to watch.
I've never taken the tour but I'll look into that. Impressive that you could put the tallest building in the world at the bottom and the top would be blow the crater rim.
Excellent presentation. Thank you for sharing about the history of Sego Canyon .
Such a sinister place.
Funny I see more pictographs than petroglyphs.
extreme nostalgia, enough to make a grown person cry.
Yep, the building was still there in 96 and I heard it collapsed by 2010.
Do you realize that there are cloaked ETs & saucers in your video? Nice capture!
A wireless lightning bolt fired up your ass 🤣
Cons Concise, to the point and direct. As an example, a dictionary is like that.
i have the V2, wondering where the heck the zoom is, i bought 2 of them used as i heard the mechanical shutter was good for mapping
What a loser. Bald Phat old Man. And republican.
Logic probes can be useful
Power isolaters could be useful
Swing arm magnifying glasses with built in lights are useful
In addition to a magnifier glass I use one of those adjustable table lamps which you clamp to the side of the table, with a built-in magnifier glass inside a circular light - these days that's an LED, in the past they were fluorescent lamps. I just move it into position above what I'm working with and I have both light and magnification and both hands free.
Why are trains so mesmerizing? Am I just strange?
There is something magical about trains -- as a young boy they awe us and that feeling never really goes away...
Aw thanks so much. My husband is up there for work right now and I'm trying to visualize the towns and their layouts. 🎆 happy new year!
I watch this video often. I enjoyed discovering Paria. Do you still make videos?
Thanks, I love this video as well. I've been busy doing other things and hope to get back to making videos at some point.
@@Raptorman0909 Great! Good to hear from you. I hope to see more videos one day!
Thanks for the showcase. A long long time ago, I dabbled in electronics design, build and I believe I did a C&G course which I did not finish as I was a little more advanced for a teenager. Unfortunately over the years, lost all my tools and equipment, including the test equipment I built from scratch. Now, with a ton of systems & gadget designs still in my head, I wish to start again a new lab. But my biggest question is related to hobby. Back then I never considered anything I did to be a hobby and always considered the commercial aspects. So if I forked out $5-10k on a new lab, I would like to see some quick return. I dont want to be a another lose weight quick guru and goes out a buy the fancy HOME gym, only to find out that walking everyday is better than a dusty GYM.
Your Return On Investment is based on your skill set. Shiny equipment gets dusty when never learned or used. Just because someone cane afford a Harley, does not mean they deserve a Harley. When you master the walking and jump rope, you'll appreciate the ease and use of setup and use of the home gym.
Magnification pl.
Enjoyed the video. I would like to see how the containers are loaded on to the train.
I don't think they do much car loading at Green River, as trains arrive they either pass thru as is or it stops so some of the cars can be removed and stored until needed when another train (consist) is created. Green River isn't near any major city or industrial area, just a stop on the UP line. Places like Long Beach do a lot of car loading but Green River not so much.
@@Raptorman0909 thank you for the information.
@@mohamedmohideen8475if you want to see how the containers are loaded onto the well cars, look up videos of the port of Oakland
The rubber bumpers on the AWG and the PS will interlock. Your DMM is a older generation design so it won't interlock with the PS. If if doesn't mess up your workflow it might be an idea to swap the DMM with the AWG. Of course, all this was back 6 years ago, so you probably have a completely different set up now. Never mind ...
Great video..thanks! I am in the area and wanted a look before I drove my trailer in there. It is looking like rain though, so I will make it another time.
Yeah, we've been raining on and off for a few days now. Weather seems to say tomorrow (Sunday) should be sunny but then Mon-Wed like iffy. So long as you don't cross any streams you should be OK unless it is raining or has rained in the past few hours.
@@Raptorman0909 Thanks. I am boondocking with a cargo trailer conversion in Valley of the Gods at the moment. I am going to get out of here in a day or two because of the coming wind and rain and cold. It looks like the whole area is getting a little colder than I like, and it may be time to head to a lower elevation.
Calling the pictographs (paintings) "petroglyphs" (etchings or peckings) convinced me you didn't do any additional research than what you read off the signage
There are both pictographs and petroglyphs, but you knew that right?
Line of sight? No way possible.
I was just there, on the west side. Great video!
